F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: What is Tales From Another Broken Home?
A: Tales From Another Broken Home, is a piece of gay fiction, written in the style of a teen t. v. series.
Q: Who is the author?
A: I prefer to go by the pen name of xtruthx and also like my anonymity so I'll leave it at that.
Q:Do any of the characters resemble anyone else in any way?
A: Some of the characters are based on friends, actors, musicians etc. Anybody who stands out to me will probably end up having elements of themselves put into a character in TFABH.
Q: When did you start writing Tales From Another Broken Home?
A: I started writing this June 2005 and took a years break from it due to problems with my internet connection but in that time I wrote somewhere in the region of 25 chapters.
Q: Will the story have an ending?
A: There is no planned ending so far, it will keep running as long as I have new ideas, and I'd rather take a break from the story then end it altogether so it should be around for awhile.
Q: Is the story in any way non-fiction?
A: There are elements that reflect my life but it's mostly fiction or the transference of my real life issues into a fictional context.
Q: Is there a purpose for the story?
A: This story has no grand philosophical purpose, I just use it as a creative outlet.
Q: Why a gay story? Why a story about boys that aren't legal age?
A: Mostly because I am gay and wouldn't know where to being writing a straight love story. The legal age part wasn't a conscious decision but I felt like starting from the stage where Riley became aware of his sexuality, it just seemed like an obvious starting point.
Q: Will you ever get the story published?
A: I can't see it being published in it's current form. Perhaps an edited version condensing the chapters into a more manageable time frame and length.
Q: Where do you get your inspiration from?
A: Books, movies etc a lot of it is emotional and reflect my moods so in a way I let that guide me and inspire me too.
Q: Will there ever be a movie about it?
A: Even with films like The Heart is Deceitful, Mysterious Skin and Wild Tigers I Have Known I can't see a market, or way of filming this story that would be acceptable to the mainstream or even fringe media.
Q: You bring up the idea of being straight edge many times, why is that?
A: After a long term struggle with addiction I made the decision to become straight-edge. The story reflects my life and it's become a major element of it.
Q: Do you consider eating meat a bad thing?
A: I've been vegetarian for 5 years and am attempting to live a vegan lifestyle and for me personally I view it as morally wrong to eat meat.
Q: Why a character from a "run down childhood" as apposed to one that had a good childhood?
A: I don't think I could write from a rich kids perspective with out over-glamourising it, I wanted the story to have a gritty edge to it and I could achieve that easier with a central character that had a more frictional upbringing.
Q: Characters from a poor family always "rebel" in such a way like getting tattoos, drinking booze, sneaking out, etc?
A: I think that's a stereotype but that it might have some elements of truth to it. Everyone's different socio-economic status doesn't really categorize someone beyond their income.
Q: The story constantly talks about the scene, local bands, punk kids, etc. Is this just a style or a way of life for those? Is it just some fad and is beginning to catch on and spread?
A: Music scenes have been around in some form for a long time and I can't see it going away. I enjoy seeing local bands with local kids in them and helping out in anyway I can to aid the progression of my local scene. I'd see it more as a way of life for those who are dedicated to it.
Q: The quoted lyrics for each chapter, are they there to foreshadow that chapter? To set the mood of the chapter? etc.
A: Some are, others are simply what I was listening to as I wrote the chapter.
Q: Why the sudden "point of views"?
A: I started the story with Riley as the narrator and that turned out to be a bad decision as it limited my ability to express what other characters where thinking/feeling so sometimes if necesary I'll switch to their point of view for a chapter to cement that into the story.
Q: Why the sudden change in characters, not mentioning the former ones for a while?
A: I felt things were getting a little stale and I'd been planning a location change for awhile so I just bit the bullet and introduced LA and Brody to the TFABH world.
Q: Will this ever become some sort of site containing pornography?
A: Producing or hosting visual pornography isn't something that interests me but some may view this as pornography. I wouldn't, it does have pornographic elements but I'd prefer to see it as a love story.
Q: Any long term goals for the site?
A: I'd like to host some other peoples stories on here along with some spin-off's from the main TFABH story.
